Custom Light-Up Signs: Send Us Your Design, We'll Make It Glow
Michael's 3D WorldCustom light-up signs aren't new for us — we've been building them to order for years, and there's already an older write-up on the site about what makes a good one. What's new is the ordering side: as of this week you can order one straight from the store at a fixed price instead of messaging us first to get a quote. Here's the order page. Send your design, we build it, it turns up glowing.
One flat $40, broken down honestly
Most custom work hides the price until you ask. Here it is up front:
- $10 design fee — we set up your artwork and build a print-ready layout, including reasonable tweaks until the proof is right.
- $30 light-up sign — the printed sign itself, assembled, wired with a USB cable and switch, and packed for post.
That's $40 for a standard-sized custom sign. Bigger sizes, multi-colour artwork, multi-part designs or extra units get quoted before anything is made — you'll have the number in writing first.
How it works
- Order and send the artwork. A logo, a sketch, a photo of a badge, a name, or just a description in the cart notes — any of those gets us started.
- You get a proof. We email the layout before anything is printed.
- You approve it. Nothing gets made until you're happy with the proof.
- We print, assemble and wire it. Typically 7–10 business days after approval, then posted Australia-wide with tracking.
You're also welcome to talk it through before ordering — message us and we'll work out what will actually work as a light-up sign.
What makes a good design for a light-up sign
This is the bit worth reading before you send anything. The design is printed on the face and lit from behind, so the parts you want glowing need to be in the artwork itself:
- Bold shapes beat detail. Thick strokes and simple silhouettes read cleanly when lit. Hairline text and fine hatching disappear.
- Small text won't resolve. Standard size is up to about 24cm on the longest side — a short name or a logo mark works; a paragraph doesn't.
- One colour does most of the work. Single-colour artwork comes out crisp and even. Multi-colour designs are possible but get quoted individually.
- Sharp file in, sharp sign out. A clean PNG or vector file of your logo is ideal. A straight-on photo of a badge can work if it's sharp.
Where they end up
Business counters and reception walls, man caves and shed walls, bars and garages, birthday and anniversary gifts, club badges, and one-off "I've wanted this on my wall for years" builds. It's the same construction as the themed signs in the store — solid black frame, LED strip behind a reflective foil lining so the face glows evenly with no hot spots — just with your design on the face instead of ours.
If you'd rather pick from designs that already exist, they're all in Novelty & Customisable Signs.

If it's a gift, start early
Made-to-order means there's a real clock on it: design, proof, approval, build, then post. If a custom sign is on your Christmas list, get the artwork in now rather than in the last week of December. Stuck on what to ask for? Our business logo post walks through what works for branding, and Christmas Gifts & LED Decorations has ready-made options if you'd rather not wait on a proof.
