Minolta started in Osaka on 11 November 1928 as Nichi-Doku Shashinki Shōten — literally the Japan-German Camera Store — founded by Kazuo Tashima with help from two German camera technicians. From there it built some of the most loved 35mm bodies of the century, and in 1985 it beat every other manufacturer to the first integrated autofocus 35mm SLR system with the α-7000.

This sign carries the mark Minolta adopted in 1981 — the blue sphere cut through with white lines, sitting above the MINOLTA wordmark on a clean white face. A reflective foil-lined backing spreads the LEDs evenly, so the glow stays smooth and bright from every angle, standing on a shelf or mounted flat on the wall.

The one for the camera cabinet, the studio wall, or anyone who still talks about the Rokkor glass. Minolta merged into Konica Minolta in 2003 and handed its camera business to Sony in 2006 — the mark has been out of production long enough to be properly nostalgic.
