When Nikon released the FM2 in 1982 it came with a shutter good for 1/4000 second — the fastest focal-plane shutter anyone had put in a 35mm SLR — and a build that needed no battery for anything except the meter. It became the camera people trusted in sand, snow and rain, and it stayed in the line-up for two decades.

In 1993 Nikon made a special run with titanium top and bottom plates and a titanium back. The FM2/T listed at $1120, was discontinued in 1997, and is the one collectors ask for. This sign is that camera's face — the yellow plate, NIKON and the FM monogram in black outline, and 2/T in pink sitting where the titanium badge belongs.
